A extended journey through the Australian Coast is being halted in the wake of the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the party for a pause. The ship departed without her and returned after some time after the personnel realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt found her person the following day.

Officials are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a full refund, and said the organization was working "to organize the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Authorities also published an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" preventing any additional guests from getting on the ship.

The spokesperson said that they would visit the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Timeline of Events

The liner originally sailed from the Australian port on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the voyage at the point of the 80-year-old's demise. Lizard Island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Guests on the vessel - who usually pay tens of thousands of currency to participate in the cruise - were transported there for a shore visit with the option of walking or snorkelling.

Family Statement

The offspring of the victim said that her relatives was "surprised and saddened that the ship left the location after an organised outing without my parent".

In her statement, she portrayed her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking club.

"According to scant facts we have been told, it seems that there was a breakdown of attention and common sense," she mentioned.

She further stated that she desired the inquiry would be able to pinpoint what "the organization should have performed that might have saved Mum's life".

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm afternoon, and mum took sick on the uphill trek," she stated.
